🥗🥬Mr. Snelling’s Integrated Science classes are growing two varieties of lettuce to learn about greenhouses and plant growth.
Through this project, students explore photosynthesis, the water cycle, and how light, water, and soil affect plant health. They care for their plants daily and will harvest and eat them around Christmas.
Mr. Snelling says "It is great to see the students come in each day and check their plants to see if they are growing. The excitement that they will be able to harvest their own crop gives them encouragement to use basic growing practices.”

This week, the Area 13 FFA Fall Public Speaking Contest was hosted by West Plains. Students in grades 9–12 prepared and presented 6–8-minute speeches on a variety of agricultural topics.
Licking FFA was proudly represented by freshman Avery Buckner, who competed in the Missouri Teach Ag category. This year’s topic focused on the challenges agricultural educators face in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Contestants were required to interview a current or retired ag teacher and incorporate insights from that interview into their speech.
Public speaking is a challenge for many, but Avery stepped up and took on something difficult and intimidating—and we couldn’t be prouder of her! She’s already looking forward to participating in next year’s Fall Speech Contest.

Greenhand members recently welcomed Missouri FFA State Vice President Maddy Rash, representing Area 13.
During her visit, members took part in a variety of engaging activities centered around the Three Circle Model of Agricultural Education: Classroom Instruction, FFA, and SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience). Through these activities, students explored their goals for their time in FFA, brainstormed ideas for SAE projects, and discovered new interests related to their agricultural education journey.
