In a back and forth contest, the Licking 7th Grade Lady Wildcats dropped the first set to the Lady Liberty Eagles 19-25, cake back to win the 2nd set 25-17, and a commanding 15-6 third set win to take the Split Set victory on the evening! The Licking History Club recently traveled to the St. Louis Science Center to tour the internationally recognized Pompeii: The Exhibition. The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the history and culture of the ancient Roman city that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79.
The exhibit featured an extensive collection of artifacts, including preserved household objects, mosaics, jewelry, and detailed casts of Pompeii’s residents who were caught in the disaster. These displays offered students a vivid understanding of daily life in the Roman Empire as well as the catastrophic impact of the volcanic eruption.
Club members attending the trip included Noah Umfleet, John Bonebrake, Alivia Petersen, J’sai Leahy, Taylor Hicks, Lucas Ingram, Olivia Clayton, Dominic Berriault, Devin Berriault, Bella Routh, Tesla Morrison, Paige Akers, Lesa Haneline, Riley Shearing, and Jessi Noland.
In addition to the Pompeii exhibition, the group explored several of the Science Center’s permanent galleries, further broadening their educational experience. The visit combined cultural enrichment with academic learning, fulfilling the club’s mission of fostering deeper connections to history through immersive opportunities.
The Licking History Club continues to organize trips and activities throughout the academic year, offering students a chance to expand their knowledge and appreciation of world history beyond the classroom.
