What a terrific beginning to the first day of school! 🎉🎉 We are so excited to welcome our students to the first day of the 23-24 school year! GO WILDCAT FAMILY🧡🖤🧡🖤 #wechooselearning

Licking Elementary Parents,
I want to start by saying thank you for the amazing turn out last night at open house, and the patience and understanding with the updates to our new system and some of the long lines. Those lines will not be an issue moving forward and the process will become even more streamline in the coming years. It was amazing to see so many smiling faces last night.
Pick Up and Drop off will be scooted back over by the new cafeteria tomorrow (look for the cones!) when school starts up. We will still be using two lines to both drop off and pick up students. If you came to open house last night you should have received a KidAccount Card with your student's name on it and a bar code. Those cards are for parent pick-up in the car line and will be scanned by a staff member at the end of the day. Don't worry if you forgot your card at home or can't find it, we will be able to look up your child by their last name and enter them in manually in that event. If your student regularly rides the bus, then the card will not be needed. The first day of school is always hectic and lines/bus times may be longer than normal. Please be sure to let the office know if your child is doing something different so we can make sure everyone makes it to the right spot. We appreciate your understanding, and we CANNOT WAIT to see all of our Wildcats tomorrow morning!

Licking Elementary teachers took part in the DISC personality assessment today on our first day back. Mr. Bryan Rush, a Maxwell Leadership Academy Trainer, helped teachers to identify their personality type, its strengths and weaknesses, how to work with the other types, and how to use all of that to build better relationships with one another, students, and community members! The training concluded with a game of Jeopardy and a heated Rock, Paper, Scissors tie breaker!

⭐️🚌Total Fleet Excellence🚌⭐️
🚌We are so PROUD of our Licking R-8 Transportation Team for earning the Total Fleet Excellence Award from
the Missouri State Highway Patrol for
the second year in a row!
🚌Transportation Director Tony Huff and Bus Fleet Mechanic Toby Backues accepted the award at the state transportation conference in July. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our entire team of drivers who safely transport our students to and from school each day school is in session.
🚌Our buses collectively travel approximately 1,700 miles each school day over a combination of both paved and gravel roads, with gravel roads making up over half of the roads covered.
🚌It takes great effort to maintain a safe and reliable bus fleet like ours and we are very thankful of the efforts of our transportation team!

🎶6th Grade Band🎶
🟠Is your child interested in learning an instrument? Students may choose to learn to play:
🎷Saxophone
🪈Flute
🎼Clarinet
🎺Trumpet
🥁Percussion (drums, etc.)
🎶Trombone
📞Please call the elementary office between the hours of 8am-3pm by Wednesday, August 9th if your child would like to join the 6th grade band class. Please share what instrument they are interested in playing when you call.
⚫️Please see below for more information about 6th grade band:
August 1, 2023
Dear Parents/Guardians of Incoming Sixth Grade Students,
In the Sixth Grade, your child will have the opportunity to begin instrumental music classes with the
Junior High School Band class. Mrs. Briana Link is our High School Music Director and classes are held in
the High School Music Room. Students will begin Band Classes after school begins in August.
Learning to play an instrument is an exciting opportunity and we are pleased that Mrs. Link invites our
sixth-grade students to join the Junior High Band classes. Band students walk between the elementary campus to the secondary campus to attend class. In case of rain or bad weather, a bus will transport students to the High School Music Room. Responsible and respectful behavior is always expected of sixth-grade band students, including while they are walking or riding the bus to and from class.
For instruments, students will need to either rent to own an instrument from Palen Music Center or purchase one on their own. There will be a Palen Music Night at the band room in September for
parents and students to attend to learn more about renting to own. Students will even get their
instruments that evening! More information will be sent out once school starts and once we have
completed instrument testing for each student that signs up for band.
If your child is interested in learning to play an instrument and would like to attend Junior High Band
classes in sixth grade, please call the Elementary Office at (573) 674-3211. When calling, please give
your child’s name and what instrument they are interested in learning to play.
Sincerely,
Mr. Brian Barry
Licking Elementary Principal
