Technology Information

District Hardware

    The Licking R-VIII School District services and maintains over 800 devices, including:
  • Windows 7/10 desktops and laptops
  • Chromebooks
  • Amazon Kindles
  • Windows 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 servers (physical and virtual)
  • Network-based security cameras
  • Network-based telephone system
  • Interactive whiteboards and touch-panel displays
  • Network copiers and printers

Network Topology

    The district network is configured with 10Gbps fiber optic uplinks between core switches, with 1Gbps fiber optic uplinks to endpoint switches. Wireless network access is available district-wide, with a dedicated 802.11ac wireless access point mounted in almost every classroom.
    Access to the Internet is a fiber optic network connection maintained by MOREnet, a division of the University of Missouri. Current Internet speed is 250 Mbps, with the option to adjust bandwidth, if necessary.

Operating Systems

    The Licking R-VIII School District primarily uses Microsoft Windows on district computers and servers. ChromeOS and iOS devices are used for portable computing.

Device Management

    Device deployment and configuration is maintained using several management tools, including:
  • Windows Deployment Server (WDS)
  • Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
  • Group Policy for Active Directory
  • PDQDeploy
  • Windows Powershell

    The Licking R-VIII School District strives to keep staff and students safe from Internet threats and provide a safe and secure computer network.

Web Content Filtering

    Web filtering is a balancing act between blocking inappropriate content, keeping everyone safe and on track, and giving users access to engaging, educational content. As a feature of our Collaborative Filter, Lightspeed Systems web content filtering ensures that IT gets CIPA-compliant filtering based on a comprehensive education-specific database and granularly customizable policies.
