The Wildcat Academic Team competed Saturday, April 14th, in District Scholar Bowl held at Houston High School. The culmination of a rewarding season, our brainiacs took 2nd place, barely losing out to a perennial powerhouse, the Salem Tigers. It's a great accomplishment by our students to have lost the championship by a mere 5 questions out of 50 in the championship round. All day Salem demolished other schools' teams; not so our Wildcats. Until the very end of the round the result hung in the balance. Final score: Salem 340 Licking 290.
As well, Isaac Haden earned his 3rd individual medal of this outstanding season. Other individual medal winners during the course of the season include Kevin Kaufman, Tom Parks, and Richelle Schwarz.
Overall, our team took 1st place at the Fall Houston Invitational (18 schools competed), a 2nd place at the Frisco League tournament held in Iberia (and we were crippled, only having 3 players that day)! Perhaps our greatest accomplished resulted in no trophy: a 4th place finish on March 24th at the Houston Spring Invitational-Competitive division. We competed against powerhouse schools such as Kickapoo and Parkview, both of Springfield, MO.
As our team's coach, I never cease to be amazed at the knowledge and skills our team display at these high-pressure competitions. I am so proud to be a Wildcat, and our team of scholars are yet another reason why. Mr. T
